Wireless Capabilities Enable DataPath to Deliver Seamless Satellite and Terrestrial Communications Solutions that Extend Customers' Networks and Accelerate Deployment
DULUTH, Ga. - January 24, 2006 - DataPath, Inc., a global telecommunications systems integrator, today announced that it has acquired the assets of Third Rail Americas, Inc., an innovative wireless broadband network provider.
The acquisition provides DataPath with new capabilities that extend the effective reach of its satellite communications networks through the "last mile" with wireless solutions that deliver secure, real-time broadband connectivity for voice, data and Internet. With combined satellite and terrestrial solutions, military forces and emergency response personnel can communicate effectively, even where there is no existing or functioning infrastructure.
In addition to extending networks powered by DataPath satellite earth terminals, these solutions can easily integrate with existing systems, simplify networking, expedite deployment and improve mobile connectivity.
"Organizations communicating in unpredictable environments require the flexibility of voice, data and Internet access across both satellite and wireless terrestrial networks," said Andy Mullins, chief executive officer of DataPath. "We've heard our customers' needs for solutions that enable quick set-up and extended reach for vital communications. Our acquisition of new wireless capabilities helps us support our customers' dynamic requirements. This is the latest step in DataPath's continuing growth from a leading systems integration company to an innovative communications solution provider that helps our customers solve mission-critical communications challenges."
"Linking satellite and wireless terrestrial networks so that communication is not restricted by line-of-sight or cabling connectivity is an extremely attractive value proposition," said Darren Corbiere, industry analyst with Frost & Sullivan's Aerospace and Defense Group. "This could particularly benefit today's military forces and civilian first-responders, who will be better equipped for success with mobile, high-bandwidth field networks."
Third Rail's wireless technologies and expertise enhance DataPath's support of multiple wireless networking frequencies, including those reserved for civilian first responders. Therefore, the acquisition is a significant step for DataPath in building on its military communications expertise to deliver superior solutions to civilian government customers.
DataPath's newly acquired wireless technologies will enable robust, reliable and secure transmissions between multiple mobile and stationary users. The combined satellite and wireless network capabilities will enable direct communications links between remote sites and command centers via flexible wireless point-to-point and point-to-multipoint solutions.
