Jane's International Defense Review - US Army Satellite Transportable Terminals Poised for Ka-band Capability
By Giles Ebbutt

The US Army has awarded DataPath Inc a USD100 million contract to upgrade Satellite Transportable Terminals (STTs) to enable them to take advantage of the increased capability provided by the Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) system, converting them from Ku to Ka band.

Originally designed and built by DataPath to provide Ku-band satellite connectivity for the Joint Network Node (JNN), STTs were introduced in 2004 as an interim solution to provide high-capacity communications support down to battalion level. Following restructuring of the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) programme in 2007 JNN became Increment 1 of WIN-T.
